Located Minutes Away from New Kingston
New Kingston is undoubtedly the business centre of the country and home to many industry headquarters. At night, the commercial centre transforms into the city’s playground, as fashionable patrons frequent the numerous bars, nightclubs and restaurants that line the streets.
In addition to its vibrant nightlife, New Kingston offers visitors a first-hand chance to experience Jamaican history and culture. To the west of the main artery, Knutford Boulevard, is Devon House, a stately historic mansion with expansive, meticulously manicured lawns that have been converted to a museum with outlying craft shops and gourmet restaurants. On the southern end of the boulevard is Emancipation Park, one of the largest public green spaces in the city, with jogging trails, an amphitheatre and a mini-botanical garden. Dotted along the minor roads around the Boulevard are numerous art galleries, shopping malls and performing arts theatres.
Bob Marley Museum
The museum, dedicated to the memory of the late Reggae superstar Robert "Bob" Marley, is the site of the musician’s home and his original studio where many of his songs were recorded. The house, which boasts 19th Century architecture was Marley’s home until his death in 1981, when it was converted into a museum by his wife Rita. The property features a well-equipped 80-seat theatre, photographic gallery and gift shop.
Devon House Heritage Site
Sitting on 11 lush acres in the capital city, the stately Devon House, built in 1891, was the home of Jamaica’s first black millionaire, George Stiebel. Visitors to the historical site can go back in time with a tour of the Georgian-style great house. Furnished with a collection of 19th century antiques from Jamaica and the Caribbean region, the house tells the tale of privileged West Indian society in the Victorian Era.
Today, the old stables, kitchen and other buildings on the property host some of Jamaica’s finest restaurants, confectioneries and souvenir shops. Devon House I Scream, makers of Jamaica’s premier brand of ice cream, has its flagship store at this location.
Whether you’re seeking a rigorous 18-hole challenge or a more leisurely 9-hole stroll, Jamaica is home to several world-class golf courses, two of which are within close proximity of the Terra Nova hotel. Transportation and reservations can be arranged at the hotel’s front desk.
